A survey by the Australian National Retailers Association confirms that Australians want the Federal Government to cut personal taxes in the Federal Budget.
A pre-budget survey of 1,000 people shows tax cuts will help boost consumer confidence more than increased Government spending or further cash handouts.
According to ANRA chief executive Margy Osmond the budget measure that will most boost confidence are personal tax cuts, with 35 percent of Australians believing that tax cuts will give them the confidence to spend, while 30 percent would like the Government to increase spending on public services like roads, hospitals and schools.
Overall, tax cuts were strongly preferred by people aged between 25 and 44, while those over 44 have a strong desire for increased Government spending on public services.
Just last week, Coalition finance spokeswoman Helen Coonan said that tax cuts would have been a better way of stimulating the economy than cash bonuses, believing they would be more beneficial to the economy in the long run. (Read the full story here).
