HTC Corporation has joined with Optus to release the first Android-powered mobile phone released in Australia. The HTC dream combines full touch screen functionality and a QWERTY keyboard with a mobile web experience that includes popular Google products such as Google Maps, Gmail and YouTube.
The device is the first to provide customers with access to the Android market, allowing for the download of a variety of customisable applications ranging from games, to location based services and on-the go shopping.
According to Michael Smith, acting managing director, Optus Consumer, the device will revolutionise the mobile phone market considerably.
“Optus customers will be able to be the first in the country able to get their hands on this unique and innovating handset, showing out commitment to provide access to leading technology and innovation.”
The HTC Dream will be available through Optus from 16 February 2009.
