Enterprize 2010, a national business planning competition organised by the University of Queensland Business School has selected seven finalists for this years competition.
Seven emerging entrepreneurs are still in the running for one of the nation’s richest business competitions finalists will compete for $100,000 in seed capital.
Now in its tenth year Enterprize received a record number of applications highlighting the ingenuity and innovation of Australian entrepreneurs.
The seven finalist concepts include:
– A wearable device measuring several key body function indicators simultaneously
– A meniscal replacement product for the knee area
– A needle-free vaccine delivery solution
– A hands-free device control system
– Technology turning laptops and mobiles into ebook readers
– An e-health connectivity service
– Technology to improve the performance of radiation detectors.
Academic Dean and Head of UQ Business School, Professor Iain Watson, said the University is proud to support Australian entrepreneurs and reward the best with $100,000 in seed capital.
“This year Enterprize received a record number of entries from entrepreneurs in diverse sectors throughout Australia which demonstrates Australia’s commitment to producing innovative ideas, products and business models.
“A panel of dedicated judges from the innovation sector will support entrants throughout the submission process culminating in a formal presentation process where entrants will have their business plan reviewed by potential investors.
“Enterprize is responsible for launching dozens of successful businesses including CoolMe, Bilexys and Codesion* and UQ Business School is confident the 2010 winner will also be successfully commercialised,” he said.
Professor Watson said UQ Business School would like to congratulate the 2010 finalists including Aviator, Vaxxas, Lachesis, CounseLink, KneeCo, ReadCloud and Southern Innovation.
Finalists are required to submit a business plan online by Wednesday 15 September and attend the Enterprize 2010 pitch day on Wednesday 20 October at the State Library of Queensland.
This year’s Enterprize competition will be judged by a panel of experts including UQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Greenfield AO, Venture Capital Fund Director Bob Christiansen, NBC Capital Managing Partner Bruce Scott, Manager of Venture Capital Attraction with the Queensland Government Stuart Gow and OneVentures Executive Director, Anne-Marie Birkill.
