With online retail up 15 percent and $143 billion worth of orders received by Australian businesses in 2009/10, opportunities, insights and learning will be on the agenda at the 2011 Online Retailer Conference and Expo.
With Walmart, ASOS and Tesco.com headlining, the event will be held at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre between 26 and 29 September. A number of Australian e-tailing experts will join the international keynotes, including including DealsDirect’s Paul Greenberg and Mark Rowland from StyleTread.
ComScore figures show that in 2010, Australian consumers outpaced their US and UK counterparts and visited retail websites more frequently.
According to Online Retailer Event Director Mark Harvey, these figures, in addition to the recent debate around lowering the GST-threshold on international purchases, has highlighted the need for Australian retailers to better their online offering and grab global retailing opportunities.
“As the first major business forum for the internet retailing and e-commerce industry in Australia, the phenomenal response we have received to Online Retailer, clearly indicates that local retailers have a thirst for knowledge and understand the importance of the online channel for the long-term sustainability of their businesses,” he said.
The event will feature strategic workshops, learning lessons, peer-to-peer roundtables and networking events, as well as an Expo hall of over 120 specialty exhibitors demonstrating the latest in e-commerce technology and e-tailing solutions.
The Expo will also see the return of the Online Retail Industry Awards (ORIA), the only awards in Australasia to specifically recognise and reward excellence in e-commerce retailing. Nominations are now open on the ORIA website, with winners to be announced at an Award Gala Presentation on 27 September.
