More clarity is needed around the Government’s carbon price policy, according to the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA), especially around the impact it will have on the 2 million Australian SMEs.
IPA CEO Andrew Conway said the carbon tax was detailed almost a week ago, and still small business owners remain confused about how the policy will affect them.
“It is clear that more modeling is urgently needed to assess the impact that it will have on SMEs across a range of industries from retailers to manufacturers. “
“It is unfortunate that the only direct benefit that small business owners will receive will be in the reform of personal income tax. We are deeply disappointed that there will be no direct assistance provided to the small business sector – many of whom are already feeling the pinch.
As 2012 draws closer, Conway says it’s vital SMEs identify new ways to deliver their products and services more efficiently to minimise the impact of the tax on their bottom line.
“The Government’s jury will be the two million small business owners in Australia who, up to this point, appear to have missed out in having their concerns being heard,” he added.
