Petrol prices rise in time for Christmas
Australian consumers have received an early, but somewhat unwelcome, Christmas present this week, in the form of rising petrol prices.
Fresh numbers from the Australian Institute of Petroleum show the national average price of a litre of unleaded fuel rose 0.4 cents in the last week. The cost of petrol is now $1.22 a litre.
The petrol cycle has also been changed around in recent weeks in some major cities, with the cheapest day in the cycle changing from Tuesday to Thursday, leaving some motorists caught with an empty tank on expensive days.
However, South Australia’s peak motoring body, the RAA says petrol prices are set to drop four cents a litre by Christmas Day in the state.
RAA manager of policy and research, Evan Knapp, said that significant falls in the regional price of oil signals petrol price relief is on its way, delivering some much appreciated festive cheer for motorists.
“Providing the Australian Dollar remains stable, by Christmas Day motorists can expect to see a saving of up to four cents per litre at the bowser, as cheaper petrol begins to flow onto the local market,” he said.
