Metcash has reached an agreement with Ritchies for the sale of nine Franklins stores, which will be rebranded under the IGA banner.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has decided to appeal the Federal Court’s decision to allow Metcash to purchase Franklins, citing two specific reasons.

The way has been cleared for Metcash to acquire Franklins, after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) lost its case against the country’s biggest independent retail wholesaler and distribution company.

Metcash, owner of IGA supermarkets and Australia’s largest independent grocery and liquor wholesaler, welcomes Federal Court action by the Australia Competition and Consumer Commission opposing Metcash’s plans to acquire the Franklins supermarket chain for $215 million.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will block the proposed acquisition of the Franklins supermarket chain by Metcash Trading Limited, who operate the IGA chain of supermarkets and wholesalers.

Metcash, owner of IGA supermarkets and Australia’s largest independent grocery and liquor wholesaler, will acquire the Franklins supermarket chain for $215 million.

Metcash Limited, the the operator of IGA Supermarkets, Mitre 10 Hardware stores and Cellarbrations Liquor has posted a record profit up 12.4 percent from $227.6 million for the year.
