When it comes to social media marketing, giving customers a quirky insight into the inner workings of your business is key to engaging them and generating interest in your organisation and its ethos.
While the rise of social media has made it easier than ever to show your company’s fun side, letting you introduce your employees or show customers a typical day in the office, other companies are choosing to put a creative spin on a more traditional approach.
Sponsoring a contest or event is a tried and tested method of generating some buzz, and Canon has taken this concept to the next level, creating a competition for its employees.
Canon technicians from around the world have been competing for World Cup glory, looking to become champion of repairs.
Three technicians from Canon Australia and New Zealand are on their way to China to compete in the finals.
“To be the best, we need to breed the best, and in our case a healthy dose of competition goes a long way in ensuring we have a highly skilled workforce,” says Glen Trestrail, senior general manager of services and support at Canon Australia.
The Office Imaging Product World Cup pits man against machine, with technicians diagnosing and repairing multi-function devices and other business imaging equipment.
“The Cup is a fun way for the Canon team to test and share their knowledge in an environment that motivates them to learn and achieve while also showcasing Canon’s market leading customer service,” says Trestrail.
The competition is hitting all the right social media marketing targets, letting Canon put a fun, personal spin on the company, while also bringing their message across without brand fatigue.
“With businesses relying on our equipment, services, and solutions to run and manage their businesses, it’s important we provide our customers with the peace of mind knowing that if they need our support, we’ve got the top technicians at the helm,” says Trestrail.
“The competitive nature of the competition also makes it a surprisingly great spectator sport.”
Brisbane’s Ritesh Pratap will join two New Zealanders in Suzhuo, China to compete on May 22.
The three Canon Oceania technicians were chosen after a five round competition, in which they beat over 120 of their local counterparts.
They’ll be competing in a set of practical tests against six other technicians from China, Japan, Singapore, and Korea.
