In order to promote innovation, that enhances both the service provided by care providers and the delivery of aged care for citizens, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the launch of an AWS Healthcare Accelerator Aged Care and Digital Health cohort in Australia and New Zealand.
The accelerator will be a cloud-based startup programme run in partnership with ANDHealth, which has experience delivering accelerator programmes in the Australian healthcare sector, and IRT Group, a significant aged care provider in Australia, which will be in charge of curating and vetting specific aged care problem statements.
Startups with operations in Australia and/or New Zealand that focus on the following areas of aged care and health are encouraged to apply to the AWS Healthcare Accelerator Australia/New Zealand for Aged Care and Digital Health.
Digital solutions for providers, such as enhanced data use to inspire actionable insights to improve treatment; equitable access to simplified and simple-to-use services; and workforce improvements, such as technologies that support new, better, and more efficient ways of providing care.
In 2023, the four-week course will be offered both in-person and online. Startups in the cohort will be given technical and business mentoring by AWS and ANDHealth specialists, up to USD$25,000 in AWS credits and chances for collaboration with AWS healthcare customers, industry titans, and AWS Partner Network members (APN).
Each startup is individually evaluated at the outset of the programme, after which it is immersed in a curriculum that has been specifically created for it, complete with technical training sessions and a review of cloud architecture.
Startups will test out AWS technologies through the accelerator and quicken their growth with a solid understanding of cloud architecture, operations, and data. Startups can also profit from working with numerous AWS healthcare clients and partners, who will contribute priceless knowledge and insights into the sector. The AWS Healthcare Accelerator demo day, where startups present their technology to investors and industry professionals, will be the program’s finale.
“Leveraging digital health technologies to improve services for our residents and make a positive difference to their care and well-being is a key priority for IRT Group,” said Patrick Reid, CEO of IRT Group. “We look forward to collaborating with AWS to accelerate innovation in the aged care and health sector.”
ANDHealth CEO and Managing Director Bronwyn Le Grice said: “This program allows companies to access the enormous capability and capacity within the AWS healthcare team to scale both their technology and customer networks rapidly. We are delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with AWS to bring our combined expertise to companies seeking to solve the major aged care and digital health challenges associated with an ageing population.”
According to projections, 23 per cent of Australia’s population will be 65 or older by 2060, up from 16 per cent in 2019. By 2048, there could be up to 26 per cent of people in New Zealand who are 65 or older, up from 16 per cent in 2020. One of the largest issues facing our society is how to manage the healthcare requirements of our ageing population.
Applications are open and will be accepted through 11 December 2022.
