Optus Business App Store launched today, promising applications for almost every make and model except the iPhone. Encompassing products such as security applications for sensitive data, budget planning and expense trackers for managers and currency and language applications for business people on the go, the store provides an all-in-one resource, tailored to the needs of today’s businessperson.
Handset support appears limited to SymbianOS (used by Nokia/Sony Ericsson) and devices that support Java at this stage. Some of Google’s Android devices are listed as supported however DynamicBusiness.com was unable to confirm with Optus at this time whether these are native Android applications, or simply Java apps that can also run on the Android OS devices. Optus has been criticised in the past for blocking subscribers access to the Google Android Market, wanting a cut of the sales made by their customers with the service.
Rohan Ganeson, Optus’ Managing Director of Small and Medium Business said that the mobile app store was an important step in providing business customers with the services they expect.
“We’re excited about giving our business customers a range of built for business options which will make their working day more efficient and we understand that business customers have both personal and business needs — now there is one central place to download applications,” Mr Ganeson. said
