The finalists for the 2010 City of Sydney Business Awards have been announced, selected from more than 520 nominations.
This year’s Awards have seen more than twice as many members of the public nominate their favourite business and over 41,500 votes already tallied – an 18 percent increase from 2009. Two new categories have also been introduced this year, a new Bicycle Business category and the new Small Bar category, bringing the total number of categories to 21.
The record participation in voting and nominations demonstrates that small and medium businesses play a pivotal role in the City of Sydney, according to Lord Mayor Clover Moore MP.
“There are 18,000 small and medium businesses in the City centre and its surrounds and the City of Sydney Business Awards are a chance for us to recognise how important these businesses are to the vitality and viability of our city,” Ms Moore said.
“Our small and medium sized businesses help to make Sydney the economic heart of Australia and are a significant contributor to the economic health of the City, our state and the nation,” Ms Moore added.
“The 2010 City of Sydney Business Awards gives businesses the opportunity to market themselves, reflect on their success and look at ways to remain competitive.”
The six businesses with the most online or SMS votes in each category have now qualified as finalists. Some of the finalists include: Sqware Peg Pty Ltd for the Information and Communication Technology category, The Hive Bar for the Small Bar category and Cheeky Transport for the Bicycle Business category.
Winners will be announced at the 2010 City of Sydney Business Awards Gala Dinner hosted by David Koch on Monday 20th September 2010.
