Go back less than a decade, and using the abbreviation ‘app’ would have elicited looks of confusion.
Fast-forward a few years, and app development is a booming industry.
Winning a spot in an incubator or scoring start-up capital is like the modern day equivalent of signing a record deal.
For aspiring app entrepreneurs, that rock star lifestyle could be just around the corner.
Australian app development company AppHappenning has launched a global search for the next great 100 apps, and a raft of prizes for the top 100.
For the ‘best app proposal in the world’, the prize is an all expenses paid seat on StartupBus Europe – an international innovation boot camp which brings together hundreds of innovators from all walks of life for an epic entrepreneurial road trip.
The top two apps will gain development funding and the top 100 app ideas will go straight into the AppHappening Tech-Investor Incubator where each app will be taken through the development and funding process.
The contest will be judged by an expert panel includes Silicon Valley luminaries and successful tech innovators.
The contest is global, and open to everyone.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime to go from man or woman on the street, to app entrepreneur,” AppHappening founder and CEO Michael Giffney said.
Get in quick though, entrants only have until October 23 to enter their idea, and the winners will be announced on October 24.
The StartupBus departs from Amsterdam on October 27 alongside other buses from six countries around the continent, all converging in Vienna to take part in the 150-person Pioneer’s Festival.
AppHappening CTO Simon Anquetil said he hoped to see ideas for all platforms.
“From smartphones to tablets, Google Glass to Samsung Smart Watch, the opportunities for innovation on mobile devices are endless.”
