In just six-hours, the Federal Government have backpedalled on their plans to introduce paid parental leave into the Fair Work Bill, angering Green’s Senator Sarah Hanson-Young.
Senator Hanson-Young has called on the Government to rethink their stance on the issue, claiming that Australian families are “tiring of the Prime Minister’s hollow promises.”
“This rapid backflip shows that the Government isn’t really sure what it stands for when it comes to supporting Australian working parents through paid parental leave.”
She has urged the Government to “bite the bullet” and “deliver the long-overdue paid parental leave scheme that will benefit Australian families, workplaces and the economy.”
The Greens are proposing the 26-week Government funded paid parental leave be included in the 2009-2010 Budget.
