Yellowpages.com.au has used its online data to to gauge how Government rebates have impacted consumer online activity.
The research found that consumer searches for the areas which received Government rebates over the past 18 months, including solar energy equipment, home insulation, hot water systems and gas conversion for cars, increased during this period.
Yellowpages.com.au found the biggest spike in searches was for gas conversions to vehicles. Searches increased to 7,500 a month by June 2008 and returned to the 3,000 mark in October 2008.
Consumer searches for home insulation contractors also experienced a spike following the Government’s Energy Efficient Homes Package announcement. Searches for insulation contractors peaked in February 2009, while, searches for home insulation continued to rise with almost 7,000 searches conducted over July 2009.
Enquiries for solar energy equipment also rose after the announcement of Federal Government subsidies but have since returned to normal levels.
Yellow Pages® spokesperson, Stephen Ronchi said the data is a good indicator of the consumer activity directed to small businesses in relation to the Government rebates. He added that eight out of 10 consumers that search yellowpages.com.au go on to contact a business and seven out of 10 go on to buy.
