Grub Lab, an innovative hospitality tech company, is offering Augmented Reality (AR) Santa photos this Christmas called ‘Santagram.’ The AR photos will allow 100,000 families attending hospitality venues in the lead up to Christmas to capture pictures with Santa despite the restrictions imposed due to COVID-19.
For many retailers and venues, Santa Claus has been put on pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so in a bid to encourage families back into Aussie local pubs, clubs and restaurants, Grub Lab is creating AR Santa snaps for the whole family.
Mick Carr, CEO & Founder of Grub Lab commented: “The hospitality industry has had it tough this year. While we can do very little about a global pandemic, what we can do is do what we do best, create unforgettably fun experiences for families that drive loyalty to hospitality venues.
“We’ve got a number of venues already signed up for this Christmas experience and are keen to spread the Christmas joy to many more around Australia.
“When 93% of all dining decisions are made by the kids, what better way to bring families back into venues after a year of lockdowns than Santa.”
What is Augmented Reality?
Augmented reality or AR is a digitally augmented version of the real physical environment created by the use of digital visual elements, audio, or other sensory stimulation delivered through technology. It is a growing trend among companies involved in mobile computing and, in particular, business apps.
Retailers and other businesses utilise augmented reality to promote their products or services, develop new marketing campaigns, and gather user data.
Recently, social media giant, Facebook, revealed its plans to build a virtual ‘metaverse’ through AR — a virtual world where people can interact, and perform other day-to-day activities.
How does it work?
Santagram will be available for free to anyone visiting a participating venue starting November 15th. Families can simply download the Grub Lab app and scan the code on the venue’s floor, which leads to three Santa photo chances where they can take a socially distanced and completely COVID-19 safe photo with Santa.
Finally, the shots can be downloaded, and shared on social media, or even get it printed. Some of the venues already onboard include Wenty Leagues Club, The Greens North Sydney and Seagulls Club Tweed Heads.
