Microsoft Office for iOS is making it even easier to store files, apps and services in the cloud, with the announcement of new integration features set to offer users more connectivity.
Microsoft announced that users can now integrate third-party cloud storage providers natively into the “Locations” picker within iOS Office apps, which include Word and PowerPoint.
Office Online can be integrated to Dropbox, a movement greenlit after the partnership deal made in November, and Apple’s iCloud Drive, which is available for free for iOS users. It is expected that Office will be adding new cloud services in the future.
“Today’s announcements are just one more step on our continuing journey to open up Office in new ways for our customers and partners,” Kirk Koenigsbauer, corporate vice president for the Office team, wrote in an official blog entry.
“Living in a cloud-first, mobile-first world is all about having the flexibility to get things done from anywhere and on any device. And these exciting, new features will make it easier than ever to use Office with virtually any combination of apps, platforms and cloud storage services.”
Microsoft also revealed that they were working on a way for cloud services to ingrate their applications with Office Online, which would allow a user to open, view and even edit documents from any internet browser.
“So in the future, no matter what device, platform, or storage provider you’re using, your Office documents will only be a tap away,” Mr Koenigsbauer said.
