Ever spent a day trekking from shop to shop, making a mental list of all the objects you want to buy – only to forget where you found them the very next day?
Fear no more – GiftScoutr, a photo-sharing app, was launched as a way for consumers to discover, remember, and share boutique shops and products.
“We have a deep passion for amazing and unique products and the people that handcraft and produce them, and the respective retailers that sell them,” says GiftScoutr creator Michael Scholz.
The app works by letting users take a picture of a product, tag it with location information and shop details, and then share it on GiftScoutr.
Launched in August 2012, the idea for the service came out of last year’s SAPI Hackathon in Sydney, where the aim of the workshop was to come up with new ways to harness geo-location information that can be accessed through Sensis.
The creators have set out to save struggling bricks and mortar retailers by relieving the stress of managing websites, web shops, and social media, and helping them create buzz around their products through one simple platform.
There are currently more than 500 retailers across Australia using GiftScoutr.
As well as helping Australian retailers, the app was also created with the hope of making it easier to buy gifts for special occasions.
Need a present for a wedding, birthday, or housewarming party? GiftScoutr makes it easy to discover and learn about the latest trends, and where to find products close to you.
GiftScoutr is a specialised Instagram of sorts, letting users create a community around products and retailers they’re passionate about.
A user’s GiftScoutr profile can also be linked to their other social media accounts. Is your birthday coming up? Let your friends know what you’re looking for this year by sharing products you like to your Facebook profile.
The GiftScoutr app is free to download on iTunes, and is coming to Android soon.
