The Senate has passed the Fair Work Bill with amendments made to the definition of small business.
The definition of small business has been changed from 15 to 20 full-time staff, in a bid to protect small business from union’s right of entry and unfair dismissal claims.
The Senate voted on the amendment proposed by Independent Senator Nick Xenophon, meaning special rules will apply for businesses with the equivalent of 20 full-time staff.
The decision has angered the Federal Government with Kevin Rudd lashing out at Malcolm Turnbull for bowing down to pressures within his party.
Family First Senator Steven Fielding is pleased with the decision, believing that many small businesses will be thrilled with the outcome.
“Twenty-two million Australians will be relieved by this outcome.”
