Some of South Australia’s leading business women were named as finalists of this year’s 2014 Telstra Business Women’s Awards.
The 21 finalists represent a diverse range of sectors, including education, heart disease prevention, and wine exporting.
Kate McKenzie, Telstra Chief Operations Officer and Telstra Business Women’s Awards Ambassador, said that the awards showcase business women ‘whose innovations and leadership are changing the industries and communities around them.’
This year’s finalists include Kathy Drogemuller, a wine exporter who established Paracombe Wines with her husband in 1983, following the devastating Ash Wednesday bushfires. Paracombe Wines has been growing over the years, and now produces wines with China as a major exporter.
St John Ambulance SA CEO Sharyn Mitten has also been named as a finalist. Mitten set up a successful first aid in schools program, which sees 20,000 primary students take part every year.
McKenzie points out that the finalists represent more than just South Australian business women.
“The 2014 South Australian finalists join a long list of incredible alumni who have inspired us with their individual achievements, and done so much collectively for the promotion of women in the Australian business world,” McKenzie said.
