Taxpayers will still receive their stimulus payments in spite of the fact they are being challenged in the High Court, says senior law lecturer at the University of New South Wales, George Williams.
The High Court is expected to announce its decision to Bryan Pape’s challenge of the payments at 10:15am today.
Professor Williams said that taxpayers will get their money “one way or another” because the government would find another way to hand out the payments, using an alternate method.
He told ABC Radio this morning that people should not be worried about whether they will receive their bonus.
However he states that if the High Court deems the payments ‘invalid’ there would be a massive shift of power and influence away from the commonwealth to the states.
