A series of international trade events will be held across Sydney to recognise the importance of international trade to the NSW economy during World Trade Week NSW.
To be held from 18 May to 25 May, the week will run in parallel to the international World Trade Week celebrations.
“A strong international trade sector is critical to jobs growth and a strong and competitive NSW economy,” said Miriam Feiler, director of Import Export Show.
“It is essential, especially during difficult economic conditions here and abroad, to encourage new entrants and to help existing traders to grow their businesses and develop new markets,” she said.
The World Trade Week initiative will replace this year’s Import Export Show, which is normally held in September.
The Show was part of the NSW Government’s Small Business September events program, which was recently cancelled.
“We are establishing World Trade Week NSW to meet the critical educational and mentoring needs of SMEs engaged in international trade,” said Feiler.
In 2012, the Import Export Show will forgo a major expo, instead bringing its On the Road road show to Sydney as a feature of World Trade Week.
The road show comprises a series of comprehensive and practical seminars and mini-exhibitions that will also be held across urban and regional NSW.
The first On the Road event will be held on 24 May in the Sydney CBD, a one-day learning program and mini-expo for SME importers and exporters featuring industry experts and entrepreneurs engaged in international trade.
Plans for regional On the Road events will be announced in May.
Import Export Show are encouraging organisations to schedule their international trade-themed events for the third week of May and encourage organisations to submit these events to Import Export Show for listing on their website.
