IKEA launches new service dedicated to SMBs

IKEA has launched a new service to help Aussie businesses create better working environments for their employees.

IKEA Business will offer key services as well as a suite of innovative designed and affordable products that work for a wide variety of businesses including the hospitality, retail and office environments.

IKEA business leader, Mark Mitchinson believes the service will assist business owners in fostering a positive atmosphere for the workspace at an affordable price.

“Part of creating a more satisfying workspace is the look, feel and layout of the office – however more than half of the respondents thought a new fit out would be a costly exercise,” he said.

“This is simply not the case and that is why we have launched IKEA Business. The sole purpose of this program is to work closely with business owners to cultivate a better working environment for the five million Australians working in small businesses,” he added.

As part of IKEA Business, owners will be able to use the IKEA office planner, a free and easy-to-use planning tool that offers tips and advice on how to furnish any business space in a cost effective way.

Mitchinson recommends small business owners begin a new office fit-out by getting the key fundamentals right to ensure their business will operate efficiently.

Here are his top tips for changing or starting an office fit-out:

  • Plan, Plan, Plan: Understand the space you have to work with and take time to organise and plan.
  • Be smart with your budget: Start with the essentials and finish with the luxuries.
  • Identify your employees needs: Determine what your employees’ typical working day is and ensure the workplace flows correctly. Are all their requirements met including the right lighting, space and storage needs?
  • Involve your staff: Ask for their advice when planning an office fit-out.
  • Work with experts: Utilise experts and resources when planning and refurbishing the office.
  • Inject colour: Colour stimulates creativity and productivity in the workplace.
  • Abide by all Health & Safety laws: Ensure that the new workspace meets all health and safety requirements including the functionality of desks and chairs.
