Has the spark gone from your relationship with PR? If you’ve run out of ideas for your PR strategy or you find yourself writing the same thing over and over again, then it’s time you rekindle your passion for PR.
By shaking up your PR routine you can get your creative juices flowing and find new ways to gain great media coverage or communicate more effectively.
Build a relationship with journalists
Have journalists been turning down your pitches or just not getting back to you? Then maybe you need to build a better relationship with these journalists to better understand what they are looking for.
If a journalist gets to know and trust you can give them the content they need in a timely manner, they are more likely to request an interview or even an expert article.
Try doing some research into the topics the journalist writes about, what they are interested in and the publication they write for. You could even try asking to meet for a coffee to learn more about them.
Mix it up
If you find you keep writing the same content or you are unable to think of new ideas then maybe it’s time to mix up your routine and try something new.
Adding more creativity into your day can help get your ideas flowing. You could do this my mixing up your daily routine such as travelling to work a different way or exercising in the morning. This is a great way to get your brain thinking in a different way which can lead to more creativity.
Brainstorm
Hold a brainstorm session with your team to develop some fresh new ideas for your PR strategy. Brainstorms can be effective when you provide attendees with a brief or a goal for the brainstorm before you meet.
You should also ask attendees to come up with some ideas before the brainstorm so you have a starting point for discussions.
Remember that every idea is valuable no matter how crazy it sounds.
The ideas you generate from the brainstorm may help you to find new angles for media pitches or great topics for articles.
Share the love
It’s always nice to show someone your appreciation for their hard work. For example, if your team achieved great media coverage for the business you could reward them with recognition and incentives. This may encourage employees to continue their good work or reignite their passion for PR.
If a journalist publishes a great story about your business you could send them a thank you card or even just a thank you email. This will help build a relationship with the journalist who may then approach your business with a media opportunity in the future.
