A report conducted by global recruitment firm Robert Walters, has shown that a company’s green stance adversely affects whether a potential employee will choose to work for that firm.
The Employee Insights Survey found that 74.4 percent of professionals claimed that a company’s stance on the environment and commitment to green policies would affect their decision on whether to take a job with them.
According to James Nicholson, managing director of Robert Walters Australia, companies are under immense pressure to create an eco-friendly work environment.
“Companies are facing increased pressure from clients, employees, the government and market in general to ensure that they are a sustainable and green firm.”
The industries in which employees deemed green policies important were Engineering and Operations, with 39 percent of respondents stating that a potential employers green policies were extremely important. The sectors that ranked quite low included banking and IT, with respondents not concerned about working for an environmentally friendly employer.
When broken down by state, Victoria came out on top with 58.8 percent of workers happy with their employers green stance.
Nicholson believes it is important for employers to let their staff know what green policies they have implemented, with 58 percent of employees also unaware that their company was committed to being green.
“If your company is investing in green policies – ensure you communicate this both internally to your staff and externally to clients and the market.”
